World-class computer graphics experts Mickael Coedel and Kim Dong-joon gave a special lecture at the Kim Sou-hwan Hall of the Catholic University of Korea (CUK) on October 21. Mickael Coedel is a Marvel Studio’s VFX supervisor who has worked on famous films such as Avengers, Incredible Hulk and Iron Man 2. Kim is one of the world's most popular animators in motion capture in the United States’ Bethesda Game Studios, known for its Elder Scrolls series.
The 21st Bucheon International Animation Festival (BIAF) was held in Bucheon City from October 18 to 22, and they taught people about the animation production processes, job know-how and expertise in their field at a job seminar. Also, CUK officials invited them to give lectures at the university, making connections with the organizing committee of the BIAF.
In this special lecture, Mickael Coedel introduced the process of how he became a character animator and the films he worked on. He led the students' interest by showing videos of the films he worked on. Kim gave students a detailed explanation of the Motion Capture and Facial Motion Capture. He also used the videos that he worked on to explain motion capture to students.
"If you want to get something, you have to be active and enterprising," he said to CUK students and encouraged and supported their dreams. He finished his lecture quoting Oprah Winfrey: "I believe lucky is preparation meeting opportunity. If you had not been prepared when the opportunity came to an end, you would not have been lucky."
